Harrodsburg is the county seat of Mercer
County, Kentucky. The city was founded
in 1774 by a band of pioneers led by
James Harrod of Pennsylvania.
Harrodsburg was the first permanent
English settlement west of the Allegheny mountains. The city is often referred to
as the "Birthplace of the West."
